Your dahlias out here looking like an all-you-can-eat buffet for bugs. Somebody call pest control before they bring friends and dessert

Dahlia fan/grower here. I’ve had this on my plants before..I’m guessing leaf cutter bees? I couldn’t work it out either until I saw the bees ‘doing their thing’. I left them to it 😄

slugs love dahlias you have to protect them. you don’t always see the slime especially if its on the underside. theres definite signs of chomping which may be bugs too on the petals.

Probably earwigs. They love dahlias, and hiding inside the flowers.

I’ll tell you what’s eating your dahlias they are peed off they are now longer the fashionable flower they used to be. Various tv gardeners have bigger them up but it hasn’t worked.
They are showy and want to be the showiest.
      That’s what eating them.
      What’s eating you?

If it’s in a pot the sneaky snails hide under the rim at the top of the pot so feel underneath the rim.

I’ve grown dahlias first time this year. This summer i have twice watered on nematodes that parasitise slugs and snails and I have seen very few. On mine the bites aren’t like leafcutter bees. Mesembryanthemum and pot marigold have also been consumed. I haven’t seen any earwigs yet on dahlias, I know they love them from my parents garden. I am seeing quite a few woodlice and wondered if they eat plants. I caught one inside a strawberry eating away. I keep going out at 9pm looking for slugs, there are none. I’m baffled.
