Ich glaube, das ist ein Mississippi -Kite. Ich bin allerdings kein Vogelexperte. Dieser Typ liebt es, mich zu tauchen, während ich am Garten arbeite. Nach Wochen konnte ich endlich einen guten Schuss von ihm oder ihr bekommen (nicht sicher), es gibt definitiv mindestens zwei von ihnen. Sie sagten, ich genieße es, sie über den Garten zu beobachten und Schädlinge und Nagetiere zu essen. Ich habe keine Gartenmörder gesehen. Ich wünschte nur, sie würden jeden Tag aufhören, mich anzugreifen. Hatte jemals jemand diese Vögel? Offensichtlich kann ich nichts tun, um es daran zu hindern, auf mich zu tauchen, aber vielleicht kann ich helfen, es zu gedeihen und meinen Garten weiter zu schützen?

They probably have a nest close by and feel you are getting too close. Hopefully it will stop once the eggs hatch and the chicks move out of the nest.

Oh man, this picture makes me feel in danger! 😂 maybe consider wearing a hat so you don’t wind up scalped by a kite. Father and grandfather both got got by owls that way.
Wish I had a diving *any* predator bird to eat all the baby spotted lantern flies I keep coming across, (escape artists)!

We had a robin make their home in our backyard. She came back for 3 years, it was amazing
There’s a nesting couple of red tails by my work and they’ve been dive bombing people for 5 years, every Spring and Summer. The lady bird finally punched me in the head a few weeks ago after several near misses. Didn’t hurt but it’s startling.
Now I’m tempted to set up my long lens and get a better picture of this bird attacking me

Next time that it’s around, go leave it some food as a peace offering. Birds are smart, as soon as it realises that you are a boon and not a danger, it will stop attacking
That’s a great garden soldier! My folks house has garden guardians as well – red squirrels! My folks have some nut trees (black walnut and horse chestnut) that the red squirrels like to control the access to – so they chase most other animals (other squirrels, bunnies, etc) out of their yard and usually a few houses down the block! Thankfully, they just sit in the trees and yell at me.

It does indeed look like a Mississippi kite, but the folks over at r/whatisthisbird and r/birding can confirm it. If it is a MK, then you have free pest control for both rodents and large insects, especially once the babies in the nest they’re defending fledge!

They almost certainly have a nest very close by, and you’re just a big potential threat too close to their babies. They don’t actually want to hit you; they just want to scare you away.
A simple trick is to wear a wide-brimmed hat while you’re in that part of the garden. Often, that’s enough to deter them.
The best way to help them thrive is exactly what you’re doing: appreciating their pest control! Providing a source of fresh water like a bird bath would also be a huge help for them. It’s awesome that you have them around.
