Personally I hate thinning, sometimes it can’t be helped (depending on plant type) but if they germinated I’m keeping as many of them as possible. You can try transplanting them into pots, especially some of the bigger ones, I like to use a toothpick or an old nail to prick them out when they are this small, you may lose some along the way but I think it’ll be worth it in the end 🙂
I visited a NT garden the other, somewhere in Norfolk, maybe Felbrigg. Exquisite walled gardens, romantic old dovecote, greenhouses and on the wall of one of the greenhouses were some Icelandic poppies growing in the cracks of the brick work.
Poppies are best pricked out at this stage, they don’t like root disturbance but will usually tolerate it when they’re very small. Prick out into module trays and either plant out as plugs or pot on from there.
