Cordlyn might look good
Anything the resembles hair, think of yucca, cordeline or even ornimental grasses would look good
Edit: even thinking about maybe Erigeron or plants at the front that resemble a sort of head dress/band
I vote carex sedge, give him some hair!
Bulb lasagne and absolutely fill it up with good quality compost. Gladioli’s, fox tail Lilly bulbs in layers and a fabulous festuca Glauca Elijah blue or a green festuca so they look like they have terrific hair whilst the bulbs are popping up with their broad pointed swords.
Can always give them long hair with spillers too like aubrietta or Erigeron or sweet alyssum…. Though at least one is just begging to have some dramatic tall grass 😍 little jealous of these ngl.
As a gardening novice – should I drill some drainage holes in the bottom of the planters? Sorry if it’s a silly question!

Wasabi so it has a 3 year mop top plus you can use the leaves as a milder salad version.
I am quite boring and did mine with spring onions. (Grown from the discarded whites.) i placed a pot that sit just snug so i do not need a longgg pot. You can grown spring onions packed closely together so it looks like it got hair. And give regular haircut for him when cooking.
Sedum, euphorbia, dwarf ornamental grasses like pennisetum “piglet”.

Will post update photos when we get round to the garden centre on the weekend and see what’s suitable to plant at the minute!
Trailing lobelia I think would be good
You could put a strawberry plant on each edge so they hang down the sides and something like rosemary in the middle.
I’ve got grasses in mine
I would plant something dangly (maybe petunias or trailing nasturtiums for summer, or campanula for all year) in the tall one and something spiky or an ornamental grass in the smaller one.
