Set up a motion camera
Possibly badger, but more likely a fox.
Probably a fox den, we have one in our garden and fox cubs playing on the lawn throughout summer.
First thought was fox but it might be badger. Probably fox

I cant quite tell from the pictures, but Badger setts are usually wider than they are tall.
Maybe it’s the entrance to Hades

Badgers and their setts (tunnels and chambers) are protected by law in the UK. The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Badgers Act 1992 provide legal protection for badgers and their habitats.
IF it’s a badger sett then speak to Natural England – there are big fines for disturbing them.

It looks like a foxes den to me..
If at 3 am you hear what sounds like across between a small child being murdered and a cat getting gangbanged then you know you have a fox in your back garden… if you don’t hear them noises then you must surrender all mash potatoes to the garden hole or face the consequences!!
It’s probably a young badger, foxes don’t really make dens until they’re preparing for cubs, which is January-May. Young badgers may be moving out to make their own sett at this time of year. If that straw stuff outside it wasn’t there previously then that’s the bedding the badger is using in the sett, foxes don’t use bedding like badgers do.

Foxes tend to stick to the same path every time too. Look to see if you have a distinct line anywhere, you can usually make them out on grass. As others have said, look forward to seeing what it is !
We had one in our garden just like this, and it was a badger, although I have no idea if other animals’ dens are similar.
It depends on your local wildlife. You could try putting an add in local paper, but you have to pay per letter so keep it brief, something like. “Large hole, will accommodate?”
