Goat.
Plant trees
Replace one side of the mower with larger wheels, so it doesn’t topple over when side on on the hill.
Learn from nature, the wild haggis.
Give half to me 😍
Buy a few sheep?
I would devote my spare time to a garden like that, you fortunate bastard.
Astroturf? /s
Agree re wildflower meadow and orchard and so many other lovely things! Why would you have a 1/4 acre just for mowing?
trees
Robot mower.
Can you figure out what your steepest gradient is?
Let some of it go wild and just mow paths through it to keep it looking deliberate rather than neglected.
What a dream to have so much space 💚
Goat ,they’re brilliant
orchard
I’d have an area with larger trees at the back then some fruit trees and a wild area to one side, and a pond in a flatter area, or it could be a raised pond. You could terrace it with gabions.
Throw the ball!
To do what with it?
Just keep it as lawn? Robot mower.
To have a garden? Terrace it and make small pockets of planted garden with flat areas of lawn for easier mowing.
To just make it no maintenance? Plant things that will outcompete the grass: structural/oremental grasses that out compete the turf, trees that will shade the grass, hedgerow plants that grow densely.
What do you want to actually use the space for?
You need a [Grillo](https://www.worldofmowers.co.uk/uploadedimages/newequipment/4998fa9c-eb68-46b0-a51a-070419a4da71.png) mower for steep slopes, added bonus of being like a little go-kart. I’ve seen them tackle some impressive slopes!
New build estate
Zero maintenance. Do nothing. Low maintenance, plant trees and mow paths through it.
That’s a plain field! I’d get a garden designer who can help turn this into something beautiful and wildlife friendly – orchard, meadow, raised beds, formal garden, pond, pathways etc – depends what you are into.
oh goodness, it could be an oasis…fruit trees, veg garden and wildflower meadow… even a pond if so inclined. I would love it.
A flock of sheep.
Landscape designer here. Plant an orchard, mark out paths and mow them and let the rest of the grass just grow naturally
Literally anything would improve this, you have a massive blank canvas.
Section it off into smaller areas and do little bits at a time. Like, an orchard area maybe where you plant fruit trees? A pond could be nice. A seating area with pergola or similar maybe? Up to you, whatever you want.
I’m going to be daydreaming about what I’d do with this garden for the rest of the day now, lol. Chicken coop here, fruit trees there, firepit over there, etc..
Robot lawnmower!! Set it up and let it do its thing. They are awesome
Orchard part and other part large vegetable garden.
Get pet goats
The UK has lost 97% of its meadows in the last 100 years so do something great for biodiversity here and turn it into a meadow. There’s probably places willing to help and that will specialise in supplying local species to sow or plant.
[this is my local one](https://celticwildflowers.co.uk/)
Meadows need mowing once or twice a year but that’s it once established.
You’re getting lovely ideas, but most of them will not be less work. Choosing paths to mow and letting other areas grow with perhaps monthly trimming is the only real low maintenance option.
Watch out that your mower can handle the situation that you create. Short woody stems and dense tall grass are not something that many household mowers can attack with ease.
Trees are always good, and you can mulch under them to save on mowing.
But really with that much space a landscape architect could recommend amazing things in whatever price or maintainance/time budget you set.
Do nature a favour and turn it into unmanaged woodland.
That amount of grass monoculture is bad for both the environment and the person who has to maintain it.
Shitland ponies and a couple of sheeps.
Some man maths would suggest this is an opportunity to buy a tractor 🚜 to play with
Astro turf, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😂😂😂 and 2 sets of goal posts, otherwise dig a huge hole make sure you hit a clay barrier, man made pool, add some fish, done, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
How rich are you ?
Wild flowers and apple orchard
Rent a scarifier, mow it really short in early spring, scarify and chuck some wildflower seeds down (check out emorsgate for some native mixes).
Plant a food forest.
Dig a vegetable garden.
