Hallo!

It looks like it’s just losing its leaves to go to sleep for winter. It won’t have flowered because it’s establishing its root system.

They are deciduous, so they will lose their leaves in late autumn and through winter.

    It looks okay to me.

  3. Ok, so sounds like it’s fine, thanks all! Do I need to be trimming it back once the leaves have gone?

Don’t cut it back till spring and the frosts are over

Mine lost almost all its leaves already in South East. It’s about 7 foot tall! So don’t worry and in a few months you’ll be enjoying the spring buds and seeing it come back to life. So exciting.

Many hydrangeas will only flower on a stem that grew the previous year. So if all the stems were cut low before you bought it, that’s probably why it didn’t flower this year.

Traditionally, one prunes this on  “every other stem”. Leave the flower heads on  as they die and dry out; then (if you need to reduce it) prune down only those flowerd stems.
This leaves half the stems to grow _this_ year and flower _next_ year.

I planted six three years ago . They all looked like that and it was disappointing after I’d brought them all in full bloom. Year 2 I got a display of lovely flowers and this year they were magnificent so I’m looking forward to year 4 as they have doubled in size
