Ich habe dafür gesorgt, dass sie im Sommer Wasser und Pflanzennahrung bekommt, und nachdem wir die Birke zurückgeschnitten haben, wird es etwas heller (links)

  1. Lack of sunlight perhaps and maybe too much water? Established trees don’t really need watering unless the ground has got very dry – they don’t like being waterlogged. I had one in a north facing position that dropped its leaves, probably through lack of sunlight.

    How long has it been there? It looks very close to the quite tall hedge and I wonder if it’s just too crowded in that narrow space.

  3. Lack of light I reckon as the leaves lowest down the tree are struggling. If it was the top portions it could be due to difficulty getting water or nutrients up from the roots or exposure to wind. There’s even a sucker that’s etiolated too.

    Is it on a north facing wall? The ivy is rampant and probably could do with a tidy up and there’s a whopping great birch and ash/sorbus near it too.
